The former Wales Under-20 scrum-half has, however, appeared eight times off the bench this season for the Dragons, including a run-out against Stade Francais in Europe.
Last weekend he scored a try in his side's Anglo-Welsh Cup defeat to Exeter, and the 20-year-old is hoping more performances like that will lead to more time in the first team.
"The season is going pretty well for me," said Jones. "Getting on the pitch is giving me more confidence as a player.
"For the team, it was a difficult start to the season because we suffered a lot of injuries and the team was changing quite a bit, but it is definitely picking up.
"We need to start climbing up the table, but we did really well to qualify for the Challenge Cup quarter-finals, which is exciting."
The Dragons welcome London Welsh to Rodney Parade this weekend in the LV= Cup, and as they cannot qualify for the semi-finals, Jones sees the match as a chance to build momentum ahead of their clash with Leinster next weekend.
The encounter will however give the 20-year-old the chance to test himself against World Cup-winning All Black scrum-half Piri Weepu and Jones is looking forward to the challenge.
"We are going out on Sunday to win, to try and continue in this competition and to build up some more momentum for the rest of the season," added Jones. "For us it is important to keep going and keep doing what we are doing.
"I am really excited to play against Piri Weepu. He is such a proven and experienced player, and it will be a really big test to go up against an All Black of his quality."
