However, the 27-year-old is confident that his side can produce a better showing in the second half of the season and says three wins from their next four matches will set them on their way.
That will be no easy feat however with the Munster, Ulster, and reigning champions Leinster all waiting for Wayne Pivac's troops after Connacht.
But Shingler says he is confident his side can perform and is hoping for a little bit of magic to get his team over the line on Sunday.
"It's massive for us. We really have to look to get three wins out of the next four games to be in a good position," he said.
"Anything less than that and we're going to be under real pressure come the end of the season which is obviously what we don't want.
"We have to start well on the weekend and hopefully move on from there.
"It's now all about looking forward to Connacht and games in the coming weeks.
"I think it'll be a close game. Both teams are evenly matched. It's going to be a real competitive game.
"I think it's going to come down to one moment or one bit of brilliance. It's about being accurate and delivering a game."
