The Blues face a trip to Munster on Saturday night as they look to build momentum and add stability to a stuttering PRO12 campaign, having won just four of their 13 league games this season and recorded consecutive victories on just one occasion.
For Hammett, the key to that turnaround lies in his team capitalising on their opportunities and coming out on the right side of tight games.
"We move back into a competition in which, at times, we have played really well without getting the results," Hammett told the club website.
"We don't want to be a 'so close' team and we have got to start getting some wins.
"Our game has developed and we are happy with certain parts, whereas in others we need to continue to strengthen.
"We would like to have more width to our game, and our communication and the intensity of our communication needs to happen quicker and more often, particularly between forwards and backs.
"Those are the kind of small details that we hope will turn losing bonus points into wins."
