An arm injury suffered by Richie Gray forced Cotter to source a replacement for fixtures against Italy, England and Ireland, opting for the man who missed the autumn international series due to injury.
Swinson touched down in the weekend's 54-10 victory over Zebre, their fifth league win in six outings to go two points clear of Munster, with third-placed Ospreys the visitors to Scotstoun this Saturday.
A statement from Scottish Rugby read: "With Gray ruled out, Scotland head coach Vern Cotter has drafted Swinson into the squad for the remainder of the international campaign.
"If selected, it would be his first appearance for his country since the summer tour, having been withdrawn on the eve of Scotland's viagogo Autumn Test match against New Zealand with a back strain."
Scotland have also confirmed Swinson's Warriors club-mate Gordon Reid has suffered a torn medial collateral ligament and will be sidelined for an indefinite period.
