In its first year, Relay for Life UCC raised over €21,000 and just last year raised over €45,000.
In following the Relay for Life motto of 'Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back', the event opened with a ceremony celebrating cancer survivors - the beacons of hope for the event.
A remembrance ceremony also took place as night fell where the track was lined with 'candles of hope'. The final element was to 'fight back' by using the event to highlight specific issues relating to cancer.

Munster have also been supporting the #ngnshirtselloff campaign by donating a player jersey that will be auctioned to raise funds for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.
Former Ulster centre Nevin Spence, whose brother Graham and father Noel tragically passed away in a farming accident in 2012, is an ambassador and the auction is run in conjunction with the NGN 7s - a charity rugby team founded with the Spence family.
And a trio of Munster stars - Dave Kilcoyne, Ronan O'Mahony and Eusebio Guinazu - have been out and about meeting the Fermoy RFC Minis and presenting them with jerseys.
The Fermoy RFC Minis are sponsored by Munster Rugby's official car partner SEAT and Blackwater Motors.
