His defensive abilities got him on Jacques Brunel's radar and after defeats to Ireland and England, the Frenchman threw him in the mix in Scotland.
The young debutant impressed with his solidity and defensive skills, playing the entire game and amassing 11 tackles - the most by any back for both teams.
"Amazing - it was an exciting experience," said Bacchin. "The colours, the sounds, the sold-out stadium and the screaming fans. Everything was pure magic.
"The game was at another level compared to what I'm used to. It was more dynamic, it was faster and clashes were massive. It was another step in my climb to reach the best level possible. A key one."
Bacchin just a few months ago was involved in the Italian elite competition but he used the Guinness PRO12 experience to get its career going.
"For a player who aims at the international level, playing the Guinness PRO12 is very important because you get used to the rhythm and the intensity required," he added.
"The chance to compete on a weekly basis against the best athletes of the Celtic area is crucial to get competence and experience. Now I feel more comfortable than just a few months ago."
But it wasn't an easy task to get fromm the Eccellenza to the Guinnness PRO12's required standards. "It's been though," said Bacchin. "At the beginning I had to deal with some difficulties and problems to raise my rugby.
"It wasn't easy but at the end I came stronger and more than ever focused on my career. Training with the guys here at Benetton, top class players and mates, helped me keep me concentrated and I began to grow."
Playing in Treviso helped Bacchin to get the call for Italy and playing the PRO12 gave him the right confidence to face some of his childhood stars.
He said: "When you are out there and you look in the eyes guys that you were watching on TV just a few months early makes you a little bit nervous but then you remember when you played them with your club and they appear at least more human."
But even after celebrating his first international cap, Bacchin knows he still has a mountain to climb to become a regular in the Azzurri starting XV.
"Clearly I am still young and have a lot to understand and to learn," he said. "But I think that what I have to work on the most at the moment is my ball distribution skills.
"If I want to compete at the international level I have to raise my game to the standard required and that is something I am still missing."
