The Dragons had to rely on the boot of Dorian Jones to keep them in touch, but after Brok Harris offered some hope with try early in the second period, Edinburgh turned the screws to run in five tries in total.
And while Jones admits the Scots comprehensively outplayed his young side, he also insisted they would learn from the experience.
"I think disappointed is a fair adjective," he told WalesOnline.
"We didn't start well and gradually got worse. We were well-beaten, we lost the kicking game dreadfully and they got big territory from our errors.
"Everything went in the air from them and we just didn't get underneath the ball. We gave field position away and found ourselves defending scrums and line-outs, which we didn't want.
"As a consequence, the game just went away from us. There's no question we were out-played in every facet.
"You could see where our inexperience came through in that we failed to deal with pressure situations. We made too many individual errors and conceding 40 points in a game like this was vastly disappointing.
"Sometimes you get done over and Edinburgh did that to us. But, hey, we are not chucking the bath-water out just yet because there are things we have been successful with in our game. We will learn from this."
