Since then the Scottish side have slowly crept up the table and could well finish in the top half, as they return to GUINNESS PRO12 action this weekend by hosting Zebre.
Last time out at BT Murrayfield Edinburgh downed Newport Gwent Dragons emphatically to set up their European final against Gloucester - but back-rower Coman believes it is still all to play for on both fronts.
"We've really been developing as a club and people probably doubted the way we have been going about it," said the Edinburgh skipper. "But we've backed the tactics and the coaches and now this a real exciting time for everyone including the fans.
"It's great to get to a final at the end of a tough season full of ups and downs. But it's great that we still have a title to play for this time.
"We're still in the hunt for sixth spot which would give us Champions Cup rugby next season and now we have the Challenge Cup final to look forward to which is massive.
"We've got to stay grounded, there may be slip-ups along the way but we're going in the right direction.
"Gloucester are a very strong side, they will perhaps have some home advantage because the final is in England, but we will have to step-up to the challenge."
