He said: "I'm over the moon to be coming north. With the club being in a European Cup Final, they're really showing they've got quality players and everyone is speaking very highly of Edinburgh.
"I know quite a few of the younger lads - Damien Hoyland, Magnus Bradbury, Jamie Farndale and Jamie Ritchie - from playing Scotland under-20 and they've all spoken how much they enjoy being with the club."
Born in Coventry, Cosgrove attended Coundon Court School - alma mater of Scotland international Jim Hamilton - then Hartpury College, before joining Worcester Warriors Academy in 2013.
He made his first-team debut, off the bench, against Sale Sharks in January 2014 and had loan spells at Doncaster Knights, Malvern RFC and Barkers Butts RFC - the club where the aforementioned Hamilton learnt his trade.
Cosgrove qualifies for Scotland through his grandad, born in Newtongrange, just outside Edinburgh, and is looking forward to living in the city.
He said: "It's a beautiful place to live - I've been up a few times with rugby - and I'm looking forward to settling there."
On the field, he's anticipating honing his skills alongside Edinburgh's established performers.
He said: "I think I've got a strong set-piece game and I'm looking to add something extra to the squad. I'm under no illusions it's going to be tough but there's a great buzz at the club and I'm eager to improve my game and kick on.
"I don't have heroes, as such, but I look at people I admire who play in the same position. Alasdair Dickinson is obviously an exceptional player and I'm keen to look at what he does and learn from him."
