Glasgow's bonus-point win over Connacht at the weekend guarantees their place in the GUINNESS PRO12 play-offs for the fourth consecutive season.
And with just two regular season games remaining, Russell is eyeing a top two finish to ensure his side have a home tie in the semi-finals.
"To have got so close last year and then to have lost is just so disappointing but we've all got that experience and we know what it's like to get there," he told STV.
"So if we make it to the final that should help us and fire us up a little bit more.
"If you look at the history of the tournament every team who has had the home tie in the semi-final has won it.
"So to get that home tie first would be a big bonus and will hopefully, without knowing it, play in the opposition's mind whoever we get if we get the home semi-final."
