Ross Ford crossed over for Edinburgh while Sam Hidalgo-Clyne added the conversion and two penalties but his opposite number - and former Edinburgh scrum-half - Greig Laidlaw kicked 14 points.
Solomons was left to lament a slow start from his charges but the South African was also quick to point out there was no lack of effort on the night.

"In the first half we allowed them far too much momentum.
"For me, what was important was that we showed some resilience and stuck in and came back in that second period when we got a little bit of a momentum shift.
"But I don't think it was a question of the players not being up for it at all."
