Ross Ford crossed for Alan Solomons' men while Sam Hidalgo-Clyne notched eight points from the tee, but former Edinburgh scrum-half Greig Laidlaw won the battle for Gloucester.
He kicked 14 points to add to Billy Twelvetrees' first-half try as Edinburgh failed to carve out many clear-cut chances of their own.
But Visser, who is set to join English side Harlequins next season, is confident that Edinburgh can kick on - with a top-half finish in this year's GUINNESS PRO12 still in reach.
"I think we gave Gloucester too much easy ball," Visser told the Daily Record. "We had few mistakes where we turned over possession and it got them playing a bit of rugby.
"Our kicking game wasn't accurate enough. We couldn't get any of our box kicks right, which we knew would be vital as their wingers are fast.
"We said we wanted to be tight in that area but as wingers we couldn't get anywhere near the ball.
"That was disappointing and it meant they were playing more of the rugby. But I think the club can build on this experience.
"I am leaving an Edinburgh side in good shape. They are recruiting well in certain positions and that's important because some players are leaving."
