An Ospreys 'original', Jones made his debut for Neath RFC in the pre-regional era before making his first Ospreys appearance in a European Cup tie against Toulouse in January 2004.
That was the first of a record number of games in an Ospreys shirt for Jones, who became the first player to break the 200 game landmark in a derby clash against the Scarlets in January 2014 while he now stands clear at the top of the list with 223 appearances.
Capped by Wales at all age-grade levels, Jones has celebrated four league titles at the Ospreys, captaining the team to their second success in 2007.
With his foot injury restricting his ability to train and perform at the highest standard, Jones will not step away from the playing field, although Tandy insists his presence will continue to be felt for years to come.
"I've been fortunate enough to share a dressing room with Duncan for many years, first at Neath and then the Ospreys and I can only describe him as an amazing servant, an outstanding rugby player and a true great of the region," Tandy told the Ospreys' official website.
"I'm proud that I can also call him a great friend, first and foremost, who will be sorely missed by everybody at the Ospreys.
"With all his achievements, and being top of the all time appearances, there is no doubt that he is a true Ospreys legend, someone deserving of the accolade."
