Gregor Townsend's side secured a bonus point triumph over Connacht without van der Merwe - who is struggling with a hand injury - last time out, as they maintained their position at the GUINNESS PRO12 summit.
But the 29-year-old is hopeful of making a return before the end of the campaign, and he insists that playing his part in the title tilt would be the perfect send-off before his upcoming move to the Scarlets.
"It has been a great season - we were a little disappointed with not getting further in the European side of things because we were so close to doing something special," he told the Daily Record.
"The great thing is we are at the top of the GUINNESS PRO12 and we're just looking to finish the season on a high.
"It would be great to leave having won silverware for Glasgow. We have been close for several years now and I'd be really pleased if I could play a role in helping us to achieve that.
"This is my sixth season with the Warriors and it has been incredible.
"We have at least three games left so I'll be doing everything in my power to get back playing before the end of the season - and my contract."
