Three intervening seasons brought no such success in the league but after taking the reins last summer, Foley has changed all that.
They meet Glasgow Warriors at the Kingspan Stadium tonight, the two sides who topped the regular-season table with 75 points apiece before each edging through their nervy play-off clashes.
And though Foley believes defeat would not be a killer blow to the province, he admits some silverware would make an impressive season that much sweeter.
"I haven't delivered on anything at the moment," he said. "In the inter-pro table we sit on top of that but in terms of delivering a trophy, we haven't done that.
"The goal for both sides will be to lift the trophy and if we can do that it will be a job well done this year and we can look forward to next year.
"I think the side that loses isn't going back to square one either. Both squads are growing and they're ambitious and both want to go on and have a better run in Europe as well.
"The boys have been through a lot over the last number of years so they basically do keep emotion out of it but everybody is fully aware, they are all intelligent rugby players and they all understand the occasion."
Munster take a six-match unbeaten streak into the match, while the Warriors have lost just one of their last seven in the GUINNESS PRO12.
And with a handful of talented place-kickers in the Glasgow pack, Foley admits his side's penalty count could prove to be a telling statistic tonight.
"Anything around the halfway line and inside his own half, (Stuart) Hogg tends to have the range so our discipline has to be good," he added.
"We like to play a hard and strong game but we also want to play a disciplined game so we don't divvy out any three points to those guys.
"There are two very good sides going at it. We finished one and two in the table, we had a close encounter last year in the semi-final and it's all building up to be a very close contest."
