And while Pivac insists 28-year-old hooker Owens will remain at the helm for the 2015-16 season, he is mulling over his options for the opening weeks of the GUINNESS PRO12.
Kiwi centre Hadleigh Parkes is set to lead the side in their opening pre-season friendly at English Championship side Jersey on Saturday, while Scarlets also take on GUINNESS PRO12 rivals Newport Gwent Dragons at Rodney Parade (August 21) and Bedford at Llandovery (August 29).
"Ken will be our captain and as last year, his back-up will be Scotty Williams," Pivac told the South Wales Evening Post.
"We are just working on a process at the moment on who the captain will be while those players are away.
"We used John Barclay last year and of course he is with Scotland. Emyr Phillips also did a little cameo, but he is coming back from injury, so for Jersey, Hadleigh Parkes will lead the side.
"In terms of the opening weeks of the season, we will decide on that once the World Cup squads are finalised."
