And though Edinburgh may have finished eighth in the GUINNESS PRO12 for the second time running, they won three more games than their 2013/14 efforts.
Therefore captain Coman believes Glasgow won't be the only Scottish outfit to keep making waves this season - and he's targeting a top-six finish.
"It's great for Glasgow to do that and they thoroughly deserved it, and we've got to develop and be as consistent as Glasgow are," he said.
"But we're doing our own thing at Edinburgh and we're getting success for us in terms of our small group. It's taken time for Glasgow to become the way they are and hopefully we're moving towards that.
"It was disappointing we didn't make the top six and the reality is that's what we were looking at, but playing-wise we came on leaps and bounds.
"In that regard we were really successful but results matter and winning matters. Younger players were exposed to a bit of experience and they'd have learned from it, so overall it was a good season.
"Top six is the aim for sure, we've got to look at that and we've got good players in all positions now and there's no excuse.
"We've got to make winning a habit to drive all standards up, we've got a good crew of guys now who know what is to be expected."
Edinburgh are stocked full of young talent - David Denton, Ben Toolis and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne just to name a few - and Coman believes prop Rory Sutherland is another man certain to improve after a breakthrough year.
"Rory Sutherland was very green last year but can play an exceptional role for us, he's tough as nails and runs hard, his keenness can sometimes be his downfall too because he just wants to do everything," he added.
"But I think with a year under his belt having learned about systems and defensive patterns, he'll be a lot better for it."
