He arrives with prop Michael Bent, who has attracted far more attention, having been thrust straight into the Ireland squad by head coach Declan Kidney.
But Murphy was quick to herald the arrival of Goodman, who is expected to play some part against Ospreys this weekend.
"Andrew has come in and is training today," Murphy told the Irish Independent on Monday.
"It will have to be a steep learning curve for him; we'd like him to be involved at the weekend.
"He is going to be centre or at 10. He will be in the midfield three and we're looking forward to seeing what he brings.
"He is excited about being here and already, he seems to be fitting in so well."
Goodman's arrival, which strengthens Leinster's backline, is particularly timely for Leinster with the news that full-back Rob Kearney required surgery on his back while Isa Nacewa has suffered a hand injury.
"It's a massive blow for us. Isa is a pivotal player for us in these moments. He's not there, so we have to look at other players stepping up and filling those shoes," added Murphy.
