One hundred private investors finalised a deal to acquire the majority ownership of the club from the Italian Rugby Union, which founded Zebre in 2012.
And just a few weeks ago a new board, made up of 11 directors, took control of the club under the guidance of chairman Gianluca Romanini.
While the Italian Rugby Union will remain Zebre's first sponsor, giving its important economic contribution to continue the technical development of several of the best young Italian talents, the club has formally become private.
That development of young talent is paying dividends, with 16 Zebre players selected in Italy head coach Jacques Brunel's 50-man training squad in the run up to the Rugby World Cup.
And last week Brunel confirmed nine players from the club in his final selection of 31, while the rest of the players have returned to Zebre in pursuit of a bright start to the GUINNESS PRO12 season.
