He is just three caps short of a century of caps, a feat only achieved by one other Scot - former Glasgow and Edinburgh full-back Chris Paterson.
But Lamont, who picked up the first major honour of his 15-year professional career following Glasgow Warriors' GUINNESS PRO12 triumph last season, has no intention of retiring just yet.
And with the likes of Warriors teammates Stuart Hogg and Jonny Gray and Edinburgh centre Matt Scott providing plenty of youth enthusiasm in the Scotland set-up, Lamont believes there is a good balance in the team.
"I love playing with them, they keep me young. I can fool myself that I'm still one of the young ones by being around them," he said.
"There's 13 years between me and Jonny Gray, which is a whole career. You train with them day in, day out, and then you see them develop. I hope they can kick on.
"Anything I can do, impart my experience, I'm willing to help. They push me, so hopefully I can push them.
"I was desperate to get here. I didn't think I was coming to start with.
"It's good to be here, another chance to represent the country I love. It's a special tournament."
