Injury limited Bennett to five appearances in the GUINNESS PRO12 last year but no one who's watched him play for Glasgow Warriors needs reminding of his talents.
And on Wednesday's evidence the centre could emerge as one of the stars of the Rugby World Cup after his
eye-catching display at outside centre - breaking the Japanese line time and again and being rewarded for it with two tries.
His second sealed Scotland the four-try bonus point and with Pool B's rank outsiders USA up next in Leeds on Sunday, Vern Cotter's troops could not have asked for a better opportunity to grab maximum points once more.
And Bennett says all it took was a little patience after Japan, who had entered the break just five points behind, wilted in the second half.
"It was a fantastic start for us," Bennett said. "It was exactly the result and performance that we needed.
"I think Japan were tiring, at the end of the first half we put them under a lot pressure and there was some tired bodies right on the stroke of half-time.
"Though we didn't score it probably ground them down a bit, and we just had to keep the pressure on and we did that in the second half.
"I think we knew we were up against a great side and we were up against a lot of pressure, the possession stats were 50/50 at half-time and it didn't feel like that.
"We worked hard to come away with the tries we did and we're absolutely delighted with how we performed.
"The bonus-point try is huge, I wouldn't say it was the target before the game, but the fact that we got the bonus was excellent."
Bennett however was close to committing a blunder after nearly running out of the in-goal area before dotting down his first try.
But the 22-year-old admits he doesn't care who gets the last touch - just so long as the tries are scored.
"It's always nice to score, it was great team play for both of them and I was the lucky one to finish it off," added Bennett.
"I'm absolutely delighted, I had a few messages from friends saying I was very close to going out (into touch) with the first one, I don't know what I was doing!
"I wasn't aware of that at the time, but it's on the scoreboard so that's what matters."
