And O'Donoghue is making the most of Tommy O'Donnell's absence through injury by proving he can be flexible across the back-row.
"I'm getting some game time at seven now which may not be my natural position but I think I'm growing into a bit," O'Donoghue told the Limerick Post.
"I've only got two professional games of rugby in my belt playing there, I think I just need to get used to it and some few minor details around the breakdown.
"It's going to benefit me going forward in the long term, being a versatile back-row moving forward. I'm happy getting game time in all positions.
"The competition for back-row places is really hotting up, there are a few new guys in like Jordan Coghlan which adds that bit of pressure.
"Unfortunately we lost Tommy O'Donnell to injury but the back-row that's there, they've always pushing you and there's always someone chipping at the heels. It helps you become a better a player, nail down your position and prove to the coaches you're ready to go."
The GUINNESS PRO12 returns this Friday after a three-week absence and the game of the round is arguably the rematch of last year's finale between Munster and Glasgow Warriors.
O'Donoghue admits Munster cannot be more eager to right some wrongs following their emphatic 31-13 defeat at the Warriors' hands.
"They got one over us, we're going to have that chip on our shoulder coming into this weekend," added O'Donoghue.
"We're really going to set out a marker from the start to show them and prove to them what we're really about. I don't think we did ourselves any justice in the final last May."
