Clegg has impressed in his three GUINNESS PRO12 appearances for the Townsend's troops, scoring 39 points.
And Townsend admitted the signing of the former Harlequin and Newcastle Falcon had been a resounding success.
"Rory has been an excellent addition to our squad. He has played very well in the start to the GUINNESS PRO12, which is a result of both his rugby ability and also his professionalism," he said.
"He's worked hard to improve himself over the past two months and we are looking forward to having Rory with us before he departs for a new challenge.
"We'd like to thank him for his help during his time at the club and would like to wish him all the best in France."
