It moved them up to fifth in the table following a win and a defeat in their opening two games - although it was the general performance which had Herring smiling the most.
Head coach Neil Doak struggled to find criticism with his team post match and hooker Herring was similarly impressed with the progress demonstrated by the players.
The hooker picked up the man of the match award for his own efforts but the 25-year-old insisted the structure of the whole team had been spot on.
"We wanted to improve on the first two games and at times we did and while at times there is things to work on and to get that consistency, I think our phase play was the best it has been in a long time for the pack so in terms of that it was very good for us," Herring told the News Letter.
"We thought we had been good in the mauls but we weren't able to finish, we got a penalty try in the last game but we wanted to get a few clean tries of the maul and against Treviso we managed that.
"In the Scarlets game we lost so much possession in the 22 so that was a big thing to work on for us and it came right.
"All week we talked about patience and structure, we showed once we hold onto the ball and show a bit of patience we have top class backs who can finish tries.
"We have to rest up because after the week off we have 16 or 18 on the bounce so it is the last one off for a while."
