And that has been compounded by the news that Canada captain Tyler Ardron and Wales prop Nicky Smith are now on the treatment table.
No. 8 Ardron has undergone keyhole surgery after suffering a knee injury during Canada's Rugby World Cup campaign and is set to be sidelined for at least eight weeks.
Smith, meanwhile, damaged ankle ligaments in their 20-9 defeat to Edinburgh earlier this month and faces six to eight weeks out of action.
On top of that, South African lock De Kock Steenkamp, who missed all of last season with an Achilles injury, is struggling with a recurrence of an ongoing hip problem.
An Ospreys spokesman said: "We have sought specialist opinion and are currently discussing the best strategy to treat this problem moving forward."
Meanwhile, winger Eli Walker won't be available to face Benetton Treviso on Saturday after he was called up to Wales' World Cup squad as injury cover for Scarlets' Liam Williams.
Walker was initially named in Warren Gatland's 31-man squad before injury saw him drop out ahead of the tournament but the 23-year-old could now feature in their quarter-final with Australia.
