But the 21-year-old is now fighting fit and looking to help the Dragons build on their second league win of the season, the 19-12 defeat of Benetton Treviso, last weekend.
It was Dee's second start of the campaign but the next clash will arguably be the toughest yet as they visit Parc y Scarlets on Friday.
Scarlets completed their fifth win from five thanks to the nerveless Steve Shingler's last-minute kick against Munster.
However, Dee insists the Dragons' latest victory gives them the confidence to bring the fight to Scarlets.
"It'd be a massive test," Dee told the South Wales Argus. "Ken is a great player and it's always nice to play against people you look up to.
"When we play any region you want to get one up on them and the Scarlets have had such a strong start to the season.
"They are slinging the ball wide and are on fire but we will hopefully use our win against Treviso for some momentum.
"It was a game that we targeted to regroup and lift the spirits in the team. Things can click after wins and there were a lot of plusses.
"We are still looking to cut our error count in the opposition's 22 but at least we are down there."
