It came after a 23-18 GUINNESS PRO12 defeat to Leinster ten days ago and a 23-21 loss to Munster three weeks before that, with a 29-15 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons sandwiched in-between.
Townsend told the Warriors website: "I was pretty pleased with a lot of the work we were doing in the first half.
"We were putting the Ospreys defence under a lot of pressure, getting good field position from penalties, and our drive was working well, so I was confident that if we continued and built on that first half, opportunities would come in the second period."
He continued: "We knew this was going to be a really tough test. Ospreys are always a side that challenge for the title and you've seen the quality they have.
"To win is great for us and to get that bonus point makes up for a couple of narrow defeats in the last couple of
weeks."
The destructive lock Leone Nakarawa played a big part in the win and was named as man-of-the-match.
Townsend praised the Fijian and also highlighted the displays of fellow forwards Greg Peterson and Sila Puafisi, who was making his debut for the club.
Townsend added: "Leone worked really hard today. He's an outstanding player, and proved himself to be one of the best second rows in the world at the World Cup.
"I thought the player alongside him, Greg Peterson, was fantastic too. I thought his work-rate was excellent today. Sila, too, scrummaged well and got involved in the loose."
