In truth 22-year-old Lee has barely been able to rest since recovering from an Achilles injury - that was initially feared to have ruled him out of the World Cup - and Pivac has elected to omit him from the squad to face Northampton Saints this weekend.
And Pivac wants his Wales star to be able to perform to the peak of his powers before he throws him back into the firing line.
"Samson is not ready," said Pivac. "It's a combination of things. He was out for a long time and there's the injury itself and fitness. It's across the board really.
"We have sat down with him and the performance when he came back (against Munster) wasn't to the liking of the player or ourselves.
"We know what a great player he can be and will be going forward. We want to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.
"We are just topping him up. He had a major injury and played at the World Cup. We just want to get him to a space where we think he needs to be.
"We are not putting a finish line on it, but he's not too far away."
