Ospreys and Wales talisman Jones was nominated for the World Rugby player of the year award earlier this month, and despite missing out on that gong, Matavesi insists it is still awe-inspiring to line up with the 30-year-old.
"Alun Wyn and Leone have completely different styles," he told the South Wales Evening Post.
"Leone has played sevens for Fiji so he has that looseness about him. When he has the ball he doesn't die with it and moves keep going. He doesn't really play like a typical second row.
"But Alun Wyn is your Bakkies Botha-type player, a team's go-to man. He has a ridiculous engine - he was overtaking me on kick-chases last weekend.
"I asked him after the game why he was sprinting so hard. He replied that he was trying to beat the backs.
"That's his mentality; he wants to beat our wingers to a kick-chase. I'm in awe of the guy sometimes when he's on the pitch."
