But the Blues, who have won just one of their GUINNESS PRO12 games to date this season, benefitted hugely from James and Cuthbert's impressive displays.
And Wilson is hoping that this was just one of many fine displays to come for the pair.
"I thought a number of players were excellent. Credit to Tom James and Alex Cuthbert on the wings because I thought both were great and ran for us all day," said Wilson.
"I thought Alex was outstanding. His work rate to chase kicks and kick-offs, make tackles and find us field position.
"He showed his attacking ability one on one and his defensive work was good. Credit to him, it was a really good performance and hopefully that bodes well for the future.
"I'm very pleased with the result. I thought we were dominant, but credit to Calvisano because they defended on their own line for long periods and the game was relatively tight at half-time."
