And though Hughes's switch from Exeter Chiefs is set to last just three months, the centre insists he will do all he can to help the Dragons - whom he has previously made 80 appearances for before leaving for Bristol in 2014 - climb the GUINNESS PRO12 table in the meantime.
"I am just giving it my best for however long I am here," he told the South Wales Argus.
"Exeter are reviewing my games and will lose quite a few players to England (for the Six Nations) so there will be opportunities there.
"I am just doing my best for the Dragons.
"This is a shop window for me and I am enjoying playing regularly. It's four starts in a row for me now and I'm building nicely."
Dragons are set to continue their European adventure away at Castres Olympique on Saturday evening.
And Hughes is relishing the occasion to take on the 2013 French champions.
"I've never played at Castres and it will be a new experience for all of us," he added.
"They have some great players, although I'm not sure what team they will pick.
"But we will go full whack and give it our best."
