But Webb, 24, laid down a formidable marker last term, following the departure of Mike Phillips, helped the Ospreys to the RaboDirect PRO12 title and earned himself a place on Wales' summer tour to Australia.
And while Webb admits he will be disappointed to see Fotuali'i leave the club, he's determined to make the No.9 jersey his won.
"There are positives for me," Webb told the Swansea Evening Post. "Whether they bring someone else in, you don't know.
"It's a loss for the region because he's done so well for us, and it will be sad to see him go.
"But that's professional sport and you've got to drive on. I've got to take my opportunity with both hands.
"It's frustrating because I'm 23 and all I want to do is play rugby.
"Kahn is a world-class player so, at the moment, it's a case of me watching him and learning from him.
"Hopefully that won't be the case when I get my chance.
"I want to take it with both hands and keep the jersey from him."
