There was a hat-trick on the day for winger Taqele Naiyaravoro while Duncan Weir, James Malcolm and Tim Swinson also got in on the act.
There was a fourth in the first half from Naiyaravoro that was chalked off by the TMO and Townsend believes the wing put in a brilliant performance for the Warriors.
"Not only was it a satisfying win but it was a better game than I had anticipated in what were quite heavy conditions," Townsend said.
"It was a pity that what was a world-class try from Taqele was chalked off in the first half by the TMO. Taqele is not just big and quick but moves quickly to both left and right.
"We saw a very good first-half performance. The forwards had set the platform and we were knocking on the door several times.
"We came very close twice and Stuart Hogg dropped the ball on a certain intercept score - we could have had at least another 14 points."
