It was a shaky start from Edinburgh who conceded six tries on the day - including a hat-trick from Andrew Fenby - and couldn't make possession count when it mattered.
Solomons made 11 changes to his side heading into the match with only Dougie Fife, Anton Bresler, Alex Toolis and Cornell du Preez retaining their places from the GUINNESS PRO12 defeat to Ulster.
But, despite ringing the changes, Solomons expected more from his troops and was disappointed with the performance.
"We were very poor. Our strength in depth was found wanting, that is the fact of the matter," he said.
"From a rugby perspective, our defence was the worst I have seen it this season. Some of our kicking game, which was out of the system, contributed to that and our inability to finish was poor.
"The first two tries were two poor kicks and instead of rectifying it, we didn't. We must have had five opportunities to score and did not take any of them.
"We have got to look at our strength in depth, this was a test of it and the truth of the matter is that we don't have the depth we thought we had."
