The 24-year-old has bagged three tries in five GUINNESS PRO12 matches since joining Glasgow Warriors earlier this year and Townsend is expecting more to follow.
Townsend said: "I am really enjoying working with him and these tries will give him a lot of confidence going forward. There is plenty more to come from him and he gives us a different dimension.
"I'm pleased for him. He works very hard in training and has fitted in well with the team.
"We challenged him to get into double figures for carries per game, and he's done that in every game he's been involved in. He worked really hard today and he took his tries very well."
Townsend also singled out young hooker James Malcolm for particular praise after he scored a try on his first start for the club.
He told Glasgow Warriors' website: "We were very confident that James would go well today. He's shown in training and the matches he's been involved in that he can perform at this level and I thought he did really well.
"I thought he led our scrum very well today and set up a great platform for us to attack from, and to score a try on his first start for the club is something he'll remember for a long time."
