However they have been hit hard by injuries, with prop Denis Buckley the latest concern after his ankle injury suffered last month was more serious than initially feared.
With the likes of Tiernan O'Halloran and Dave McSharry having gone down in the backline just before and then during last week's win over Newcastle, Connacht were forced to include six academy players in their matchday squad, but it made no difference as they picked up an important win.
And Lam believes his youngsters have benefited from the work of the coaching staff and have not been overawed as a result.
"They are Academy by name," he told the Connacht Tribune. "But I think the biggest thing is that they've been integrated well into the group and are very much part of the group.
"Most importantly, they have no fear because fear always comes from uncertainty or isolation.
"But they have real certainty about what the plan is because a lot of work by the coaches is being put into them. And then with the other senior players, certainly they are not isolated, they know the way we operate is as a team.
"They go out knowing 'it's not just me against this team, it's me and my teammates'."
