A former singer with the National Boys choir and a teenage mountain bike champion, Fagerson has been channelling his efforts in more recent years.
Since making his professional debut against Benetton Treviso in October 2014, he has gone from strength to strength, including scoring two tries in nine GUINNESS PRO12 appearances this season.
And while yet to become a regular starter with Glasgow Warriors, Fagerson intends to take being a part of the Scotland set up in his stride.
"It was fantastic hearing that on my birthday which made it an extra special day, and that's my new goal," he said of the prospect of earning his first Scotland cap.
"It's amazing. It's like living a dream and I've had to pinch myself a few times. It's fantastic, but the hard work starts now.
"My dream was to become a professional rugby player and I've already accomplished that."
Fagerson joins up with a Scotland side looking to build upon their 2015 World Cup efforts which saw them reach the quarter-final stage.
And with domestic results also heading in the right direction - with Glasgow Warriors winning the GUINNESS PRO12 last season and Edinburgh currently occupying a top-three spot - Fagerson revealed confidence is high for trying to win this year's Six Nations competition.
"There is a belief in the squad and that is every team's aim," he added.
"Everybody is very optimistic. The World Cup proves this team's got something special.
"In the Six Nations, we were there or thereabouts last year and a few games didn't go our way, but they were all pretty close,
"I think we can do something special this year."
