Having shown himself to be a jack of all trades in the back row in the last 18 months, Jones has been firmly touted as the replacement at blindside in the autumn.
However for Jones the immediate consideration is his form with the Ospreys.
"I've learnt those things take care of themselves," he told Wales Online. "You've got to be fit and playing well. Then it's down to one man or a group of guys selecting.
"It's what it is. If, given opportunities this season, I will, hopefully, be able to take them to get a chance.
"Have boots, will travel! Playing in a number of positions is, I suppose, an asset at my age. Experience as well will maybe hold me in good stead and that's a big thing at international level.
"But, first and foremost, these Heineken Cup games are the shop window to see who is and isn't playing well."
