The 26-year-old made his GUINNESS PRO12 debut from the bench last weekend in the 20-20 draw with Glasgow Warriors and could be in line for his first start at Munster on Sunday.
"JJ adds to our options," Rees told South Wales Evening Post. "He has a good attitude and just wants to come in and enjoy his rugby and see what the game in the northern hemisphere is about.
"He brings a refreshing mindset that we can shift the ball to those wide channels and play to his strengths and he has confidence to want the ball.
"Even when coming off the bench against Glasgow and being uncertain about our calls, you could see some of his work off the ball. He sniffs where there's space to exploit and where he can play off people - and has an innate ability to understand where he can cause problems.
"That's exciting for us and he is someone who's going to be involved heavily over this block."
