The Dragons had led 15-14 at the break but Aki and Eoghan Masterson added to Matt Healy and Tiernan O'Halloran first-half tries, and Connacht held on 26-21 with ten minutes to go.
That's now three bonus-point victories in a row in all competitions for Connacht, who have left their four-game GUINNESS PRO12 losing streak in the dust.
And while Lam says it was not a vintage performance, he admits their character shone through when it was needed.
"We didn't play well at all, but to come away with five points - that's three on the trot now - says a lot about their character," said Lam.
"That game reflected our season - there was some really good stuff and some things we didn't do quite well.
"But the adversity and problem-solving out there, when you consider some of the players who are missing, there was a mix of our whole season there."
