The first phase of the project has seen the two Italian clubs of the GUINNESS PRO12 - Benetton Treviso and Zebre - put two man-of-the-match jerseys on auction from the two Italian derbies played over Christmas.
A total of €535 was collected from the auctions, with the two highest bidders receiving the sports memorabilia directly from the hands of Italian internationals Matteo Zanusso and Dries van Schalkwyk on Saturday, January 30, when both Italian clubs played at home in the 13th round of the GUINNESS PRO12.
The goal of the fundraising campaign is to restore the full functionality of Rugby IV Circolo Benevento's own sports facilities that were heavily damaged by the flood, helping a city with a great tradition of rugby.
In fact, two Benevento-born players are currently on Zebre's roster: Italian internationals, fly-half Carlo Canna and hooker Tommaso D'Apice, who delivered their teammate's jersey to the auction winner alongside Zebre chairman Mr. Romanini.
Every GUINNESS PRO12 supporter can help the campaign reach the €5000 target of the campaign by registering at www.triboom.com/zebrerugby, with tickets and hospitality at Zebre and Italy games, gadgets, signed memorabilia and official ties on offer.
