They lead Connacht on points difference and will need every advantage they can get to remain there, which is why the return of flanker Chris Henry from injury last weekend was a timely boost.
But whatever happens they can expect another close one against Scarlets, who have been on both the winning and losing sides of a number of very narrow results this season.
Indeed, an incredible seven GUINNESS PRO12 games involving Scarlets this year have been settled by four points or fewer - so expect a competitive one at the Kingspan Stadium.
First up though is a Friday night triple bill and a Benetton Treviso side, buoyed by their first win of the season, playing host to Newport Gwent Dragons.
With incoming head coach Kieran Crowley looking on, Treviso secured victory over Cardiff Blues last weekend - though the Italians have nearly always put up a fight after securing a league-high seven losing bonus points to date.
It's been feast or famine for the Dragons this year, as they've beaten Irish heavyweights Leinster and Munster but have won just one of their last five GUINNESS PRO12 games.
Also on Friday, Ospreys host Edinburgh in a match which could go a long way in deciding which direction they are heading in as far as the table is concerned.
Ospreys landed a Valentine's Day blow on Munster to reignite their top four hopes, while it was heartbreak for Edinburgh in Round 14 as Aled Thomas' boot won it for Scarlets late on.
And in Kilmarnock, Glasgow Warriors and Munster clash in a repeat of last year's GUINNESS PRO12 Final - a game the reigning champions can hardly afford to lose.
The Warriors have two games in hand on most of their rivals but they are without a league victory since their triumph over Benetton Treviso back in November.
The action continues into Saturday and second-place Connacht, the league's top scorers with 36 tries so far, will look to charge on in Parma against Zebre.
Zebre have never beaten Connacht but should they put to bed that piece of history, it will be their second-ever victory over an Irish province.
The Blues will aim to get back on the horse with a win over Leinster and though they slipped up against Treviso, their home form remains imperious - having won their last five fixtures in all competitions at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
Leinster will undoubtedly be a tough nut to crack however, as they travel to Cardiff with a stingy defence that has only conceded 13 GUINNESS PRO12 tries this season.
