Not since 2013 have they managed to reach the end-of-season play-offs although that could change this time around with just five games remaining.
The team is currently in the middle of a two-week break from games before returning with a tasty-looking derby against rivals Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium a week on Saturday.
And after accepting that some points may have slipped through their fingers at certain moments this season, Pivac is urging his players to find their feet quickly again after the break.
"We are reasonably happy with our position in the league," Pivac told the South Wales Evening Post.
"You always look back at a certain block of the season and think maybe we left a couple of points out there, but with five games to go, if you would have given us this position at the start of the season I would have been pretty happy with that.
"I think the break has come at a good time for us. We had a bit of illness in the camp which can be put down to fatigue, a few injuries, so boys have gone away to refresh before coming back and preparing for the Ospreys.
"It is a massive game. The Ospreys are in a similar position to where we found ourselves last season, chasing that European spot."
