Macauley Cook, Matthew Rees, Garyn Smith and Patchell all crossed for the Blues as they turned over an 8-3 deficit to bounce back from defeat to Glasgow Warriors with a 37-28 win.
Anthony Foley's Munster outfit had lost just one away game in the GUINNESS PRO12 since the turn of the year and with wins in their last two outings against Dragons and Benetton Treviso, they looked to be hitting top form.
But the Blues had other ideas and Wilson was ecstatic with the way his men turned things around for an historic victory.
"We produced a great win and, more importantly, a bonus point win. Anytime you beat Munster it's a great win and do it with four tries is something you have got to be really happy about," he said.
"It's the first time in seven years we have beaten them here and that is a stat that we wanted to break.
"We have a group of players who will keep fighting until the end. We have a great attitude.
"This group like to play and have the skill set to do that. We are scoring some good tries."
It was Munster who started the brighter. Rory Scannell and Billy Holland were prominent for the visitors, winning their collisions and dominating the gain-line, forcing a penalty which Ian Keatley slotted before a Scannell break lead to Darren Sweetnam's score.
Cardiff, though, roared back into the game and threw a serious obstacle in the way of Munster's play-off charge, arresting a poor run of form, solidifying their eighth-place position and moving them level on points with Ospreys.
And Wilson was happy with his team's response after falling behind.
He said: "We were a little bit slow starting. We committed a bit too many to defensive breakdowns and situations, it left us a little bit short of numbers.
"The speed of ball was high for them early on, but we got it back down towards half-time and went in ahead. But the first 20 minutes was a little slow.
"We certainly make it entertaining and high-scoring, the rugby we play on this pitch and surface is a style that we hope will attract people to come and watch us play."
