Russell helped himself to a double, as did Lee Jones, while Tommy Seymour, Henry Pyrgos and Mark Bennett also crossed the whitewash as the league's top try scorers kept up their pursuit of top two sides Leinster and Connacht.
After a slow start to the season, Saturday's eighth straight victory means Glasgow have now equalled their club record for matches won in a row.
And Townsend believes having targets such as that to aim for has helped get his side back in the mix for the final stages of the season.
"It's great to have these little goals throughout the season," Townsend told Glasgow Warriors TV.
"During the Six Nations we wanted to be the top team in those games.
"We produced a mini league table and we finished second overall, behind Connacht.
"Since then we've done really well, beating Leinster and Ulster. To now win three away from home is excellent.
"I was really pleased with how we started the match, particularly in defence.
"We put their attack under pressure and when we got the ball we took our opportunities.
"We know Scarlets always start very well so to get the advantage in the first 20 minutes built a platform for the rest of the game."
