The past two seasons has seen major upheaval at the club with Ian Dowling, Alan Quinlan, John Hayes retiring following their 2011 league win, while Jerry Flannery, David Wallace, Denis Leamy ended their careers last season.
These were all members of the starting XV which won the 2008 Heineken Cup, with fellow starters of that game Lifeimi Mafi and Tomás O'Leary having also moved on to pastures new with Perpignan and London Irishrespectively.
But having committed his future to the club this week along with Ian Keatley, 24-year-old Archer claims Munster's new breed, who sit just two points away from the RaboDirect PRO12 play-off places, can create their own history.
"In many ways this is a brand new squad," Archer told the Irish Independent. "We had a lot of legends retiring in the past couple of seasons.
"They left their legacy - the two Heineken Cups and the league titles - but now it is a chance for this group to try and replicate that.
"We need to keep improving but there is great belief. It is a fresh start.
"I have been a massive Munster supporter all my life so to be given the chance to have the jersey passed to me is an honour.
"I'm happy with the way I'm progressing and feel we can achieve a lot. It is an exciting time and I'm thrilled to be part of it."
