Benetton Rugby Treviso is also pleased to report that it has extended the contracts of the following athletes:
Filippo Filippetto
The 27 year old tight head prop, after a few years at Rugby Castellana, the hometown team in 2006/2007 switches to the San Donà where he played until last season. Unfortunately his first year in Treviso was affected by two significant injuries, a fracture of the orbital wall suffered in the first part of the season and an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Despite this he has racked up 11 appearances and has performed well.
Matteo Zanusso
The loose head prop, grown in the youth team of San Donà in the class of 93, he joined Benetton Rugby in the summer of 2014. In his first year in Treviso he played in all twenty-two rounds of the Guinness PRO12, to date has 50 caps. Solid in the scrum, Zanusso was called up to the Six Nations 2016, playing five matches.
Luca Bigi
A hooker, began at Rugby Reggio before moving to Viadana. After several good performances in the 2014/2015 season with Petrarca Padova, he was selected for the Emerging National squad which attended the Tbilisi Cup 2015. Bigi arrived in Treviso last year, with 14 caps to date.
Cherif Traorè
A prop, a product of the youth team of Viadana, was a member of the academy "Ivan Francescato" and the national Under-20 squad with which he won the U20 World Cup in Chile in 2013. In the 2013/2014 season he went on loan to the Cavalieri Prato with whom he played in the championship of Eccellenza, the following year he returned to Viadana then last summer joined Benetton Rugby. Traore is a strong ball carrier, with a great offensive power and aggressive in defense. In his first season with Benetton he racked up 9 appearances.
Marco Lazzaroni
He has previously worn the jerseys of Rugby Udine and Marchiol Mogliano. 191 cm tall and weighing 105 kg, with considerable physical strength he can play flanker or lock. At the end of his second season at Benetton he has collected 27 caps and four tries.
Jayden Hayward
29 year-old utility back previously wearing the jerseys of Taranaki, the Highlanders, Hurricanes, and finally the Western Force. He will start his third season in Treviso. Even in Italy, as he had already done at home, Hayward is known for his vision of the game and for explosive pace in open play, especially in the counter attack. In these two seasons he has taken the field 50 times with the shirt of Benetton scoring 259 points.
A big "good luck" to the players who will be involved in summer internationals with the various national teams.
Training will resume on 23th May under the guidance of Coach Crowley up to 11th June, what will follow a three-week break. The pre-season will officially start on Monday, July 4th. National players will be busy until June 26th for summer tours, then observe a rest to join the rest of the group on July 18.
