The 25-year-old has been at Bristol Rugby since January 2015, helping them regain promotion to the Aviva Premiership, having previously played for French side Perpignan.
And the Italian, who can play at both centre and wing, believes he's learnt a lot from his time away which he can use to benefit his home club.
"I grew up in Treviso and I could not be happier to return, I was hoping to do it," he said.
"Benetton has always been a big club, perhaps in the last few seasons it has not been very lucky but I'm back to lend a hand to the club and bring it back to the positions they deserve.
"The experience abroad was very helpful, it allowed me to learn about new environments and different ways of interpreting rugby, it was a great challenge but also very educational."
Benvenuti made his debut for Treviso in the 2009-10 season which ended with the club becoming Italian Champions, a season prior to them joining the Guinness PRO12.
He made his Italian debut against Argentina in Verona in November 2010 and has gone on to earn 34 international caps, including appearances at the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups.
