While Mark Anscombe's men are guaranteed to be in the last eight, Munster and Leinster kept their hopes of qualification alive with victories of their own.
Munster are still in the hunt after edging Edinburgh 26-17 at Murrayfield, with a penalty try, a Conor Murray score and 16 points from Ronan O'Gara's boot keeping them in contention.
Leinster kept their slim chances of retaining their crown alive with a 33-14 bonus-point win over Scarlets, while Ospreys' 15-15 draw with Leicester Tigers ended their European ambitions for another season.
Cardiff Blues were no match for a powerful Toulon side - losing 45-25 in France - while Connacht fell 47-8 to English champions Harlequins.
TRY OF THE WEEKEND
Cardiff Blues responded to the lively atmosphere at Stade Felix Mayol with a clinical start against Toulon - taking the lead with a well-worked Leigh Halfpenny try.
Sam Warburton managed to recover the ball from a messy scrum to feed Rhys Patchell, who kept the ball moving through the hands of Jamie Roberts.
The Wales international put in a well-timed pass to youngster Owen Williams, who picked a great angle to cut through the midfield and round Delon Armitage, before offloading superbly for Halfpenny to touch down in the corner.
BREAK OF THE WEEKEND
Trailing 15-10 to Leicester Tigers with five minutes remaining, wing Eli Walker hauled Ospreys back into the game with a scintillating 50-metre dash which carved through the backline.
Once tackled the ball was spread wide for Jonathan Spratt to go over, though Dan Biggar's failure to land the tricky conversion ended the Welsh region's hopes of playing beyond the pool stages.
Tommaso Benvenuti also deserves special mention for his effort in Treviso's 35-14 defeat to Toulouse, the centre showing the defence a clean pair of heels as he stormed clear to put the Italian club on the board early in the match.
PLAY OF THE WEEKEND
Leinster needed a bonus point against Scarlets to keep their hopes of a quarter-final berth alive, and they looked well on their way with three fries before the interval.
A Liam Williams try in first-half injury time narrowed their lead to 19-11, but the European champions' response was perfect - coming out all guns blazing to grab the crucial bonus point.
After patient work through the phrases, Jamie Heaslip peeled away to the right, offloading to Rob Kearney, who broke through one tackle and spun through another before touching down for the all-important fourth try.
Joe Schmidt's side now need to replicate their bonus-point performance against Exeter Chiefs this weekend to have a chance of progressing as a best runner-up.
PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND
Eli Walker is currently one of the most exciting prospects in Welsh rugby and he demonstrated why during Ospreys' 15-15 Heineken Cup draw with Leicester Tigers.
His scintillating break to set up his side's late try summed up a captivating performance, with the wing lighting up the Liberty Stadium with a series of breaks and clever passes throughout the match.
The calls for Walker to be drafted into the senior Wales squad are growing by the week and the wing did his Six Nations chances the world of good once again.
LIONS WATCH
Luke Fitzgerald's first Heineken Cup match of the season was a successful one for the returning Irish wing, as he grabbed a try and continued to cause Scarlets problems when in possession. If he can continue to impress after his return from a long-term neck injury, Fitzgerald could be a good outside bet to add to the Lions cap he won in 2009.
Despite a heavy 45-25 defeat to Toulon, Leigh Halfpenny once again impressed at full-back for Cardiff Blues as he vies for a spot with Leinster's Rob Kearney. Halfpenny's two tries and all-round performance against the Top 14 side once again underlined why he is such a valuable asset to both club and country.
Ireland scrum-half Conor Murray overcame the difficult conditions at Murrayfield to help Munster navigate past a tricky clash against fellow RaboDirect PRO12 outfit Edinburgh, grabbing a crucial try in the process as the provincial side kept themselves in with a chance of Heineken Cup qualification.
