Edwards, however, admitted he wouldn't be surprised if Lydiate is thrown straight back into international action with Wales kicking off the defence of their RBS 6 Nations crown in Cardiff on February 2 against Ireland.
"He is on course for the start of February," Edwards told Wales Online.
"It wouldn't surprise me if Dan has a half of rugby for us and Wales throw him straight in. He's that important - we saw how much he was missed during the autumn internationals."
Lydiate's absence has been sorely felt by both club and country this season.
Wales lost all four of their autumn internationals without the 2012 Six Nations Player of the Tournament while the Dragons have one just one of their RaboDirect PRO12 matches since September and currently sit 11th in the league table.
